We spent last weekend out at the family ranch in San Ygnacio. What an incredible time. We enjoyed a quality visit with family we had not seen in a while. The kids were so excited to wear new boots (Thank you Meg, Mandy and Mellie!), play with their second cousins and ride a horse.
We kicked off our visit with a delicious meal. Afterwards, my cousin, George, saddled up "Bucky" for us. He demanded that I warm her up...do you know how long it's been since I have been on a horse?! Surprisingly, I could still walk the next day.
The kids all took a turn. Elle and Piper learned to ride Bucky by themselves. They were so proud and had a blast.
Cannon thought he was the real deal with his hat and boots. After riding Bucky, Cannon referred to his boots as "horse shoes" because he associated his boots with being a cowboy and riding a horse. The next morning he asked if he could wear his "horse shoes" to breakfast.
Piper said this was the best day because "I got to ride a horse, do a pinata, and roast marshmallows." A great day indeed.

Whiny Phase
Cannon is stuck in a whiny phase...it's all I ever hear seems like. In a moment of frustration I asked, "Why are you not a happy boy ever?"
His reply: "Because I just want to get my way."
Christmas 2010
We spent Christmas here this year. Bill and Jean came on Thursday and joined us for Christmas Eve Service on Friday. We continued a new tradition we started last year...to eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant after the service.
Brian, Les and Ashton were here for several hours on Christmas Day. It was a very nice time, although we missed those family members who couldn't be with us.
Family Portraits
Bill and Jean wanted to get a portrait of the entire family and Thanksgiving was the perfect time to do it since we would all be in town.
It's been a long time since I've done a "studio" portrait. I have to say it was exhausting! We were there for two hours. Half the time was spent posing for photos and the other half was spent choosing the pictures you wanted to print. Of course, we had a very large group so there were lots of combinations to get, but the way they herd you through there is crazy! And I'm a bit disappointed that they don't pay more attention to detail--like noticing the reflection on Carroll's glasses or that my sweater is all bunched up or that Elle's hand is hidden inside her sleeve. Needless to say, there were several great pictures I want to share.
NOTE: These are professional photos. They allow digital posting (blogs, Facebook, etc.), but you can only get prints through the studio if you have the CD with all the images.

Elle's 8th Birthday
This year for Elle's birthday, we had a pottery painting party. Elle invited a few friends and her cousins that live in town. We painted Christmas ornaments, which were ready just in time to kick off the month of December. We may have this type of party every year!

October 2010
Here's where it starts to get very busy...camping at Garner State Park on the Frio River, a Fall Festival, and Halloween.
Indy, Our New Kitty
For the record, Piper has wanted a cat since she was two. We gave her every kind of stuffed kitty there was to be had. Then she received a cat that sits on a mat and purrs and "breathes"--its middle section raises and lowers. Finally she received a kitty that meows, moves like a real cat, and even hisses when you hold its tail. What more can a child want, right?
Then, as we approached the last two Christmases, she said she was going to ask Santa for a "REAL" cat. Uh-oh. We all know how Santa doesn't like to disappoint. We sort of started to entertain the idea ever so slightly. The deal, however, was secured when she was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and endured 6 different attempts of IV insertion the first day and another two the next day when the port came out--and all the while Mommy was telling her it would be over soon. Needless to say...meet Indy.

Texas Game
We had planned to attend a Texas game with all the Dases Labor Day Weekend long before Piper had gotten sick. With her just being released from the hospital the Thursday before, we weren't sure that we would be allowed to go. Luckily, the game was being played at Reliant Park, an indoor facility and our doctor said that as long as she didn't over-do it, we could make the trip.
Catching Up Is An Understatement!
Ever since Piper was admitted to the hospital for pneumonia in late August, I have been behind. I'm hoping that I can at least post all the pictures I need to share with you in the next few posts. Thanks for not giving up on me!
Let's start with school and new teachers...another blessed year with beyond fabulous teachers for our kids.
